About the Band

A BAND WITH HISTORY
Started by a retired Rutgers professor and piano player (Marshall Stalley) in 1982, Marshall's Dixieland Jazz Band is comprised of amateur and professional musicians from around central New Jersey.

The band plays Dixie standards on authentic instruments and rarely relies on music -- so you never know how a tune will turn out. Regular favorites include Darktown Strutters Ball, I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Up a Lazy River, Jada, Indiana and Just a Closer Walk with Thee are just a few from the diverse book.

Inspirations are Louis Armstrong, The Dukes of Dixieland, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain.

The Regulars:
Rod B. Anderson, Clarinet/Reeds (Princeton)
Warren Buckleitner, Cornet/Trumpet (Flemington)
Henry Dale, Banjo/Guitar/vocals (Princeton)
George Dougherty, Trombone (Lawrenceville)
Charley Huck, Piano (Somerville)
Jerry Gerard, Drums (Monroe Twp.)
Tom Spain, Tuba (Skillman)

Retired or Deceased Members; No Longer Playing on Earth, Anyway
2015 has been a hard year for Marshall's band. We've lost two core regulars, but we'll keep playing and will keep their memories and spirits alive with our music.

Frank Stabile, Banjo (N. Plainfield). We lost our loyal singing banjo player in the month of July 2015.  Obituary

Sam Leiner, Drums. We lost our dear friend and faithful drummer on a cold day in January 2015. We just helped Sam celebrate his 90th birthday last July with a wonderful jam session. His steady rhythm and outstanding musicianship will be greatly missed. He will be replaced by his hand picked replacement and friend Jerry Gerard.
